Altamont Wands and Staffs

Buckthorn, an invasive species in the northeastern United States, serves as a key material for our handcrafted wands and walking staffs. This remarkably strong wood retains its resilience even when shaped into thin profiles, making it ideal for our creations. By actively cutting down buckthorn, we not only mitigate its spread but also transform this often-overlooked resource into exquisite, functional art. Our wands and staffs are not just tools; they represent a commitment to sustainability and a deeper connection to the natural world. Each piece is unique, inviting users to appreciate both its beauty and the environment it helps preserve. Through this process, we aim to foster a greater awareness of invasive species while providing our customers with durable and aesthetically pleasing products to enjoy.

About our buckthorn wands and staffs...

Our design philosophy is guided by form and functionality.

We create each wand and staff with the aim to make them feel balanced in your hand so they feel naturally 'just right' and an extension of yourself.

We are a small workshop that hand makes wands and walking staffs that are unique in style, shape, and wood used.

For most of our items, we use wood harvested on our land in Altamont, Upstate New York.

In this way, we hope to create beauty for people to enjoy everyday and add a little magic to their daily lives
